Anti-Collision Devices

The main purpose of anti-collision devices is to eliminate the possibility of crane failures and accidents resulting from the movement of cranes. Usually, the tower cranes in Australia that operate near airfields are equipped with red-flashing lights. The lights significantly reduce the risk of airplane-crane collision. Another efficient anti-collision device recommended for traveling tower cranes is an audible warning device that will sound continually during the travel of the crane. If weather conditions do not allow the audible warnings to be heard, rotating lights are used to alert the nearby personnel that the crane is moving. The tower cranes that are mounted on rail tracks should be equipped with limit switches to limit the travel of the crane on the track, while the ends of the track should be equipped with stops.


Operator Protection

The operator needs to remain safe in the cabin. There are many safety devices that can significantly reduce the possibility of human factors associated with crane failures, and prevent the injury or death of a crane operator and/or workers in the area. One way to reduce the possibility of the crane operator being injured or killed if an object hits the cabin of the crane, is cabin reinforcement. The cabin of the operator needs to be strengthened as much as possible, in order to prevent crushing or deforming of the cabin. Also, each crane for sale needs to come with distortion-free safety glass and have a windshield wipers for great visibility in any condition.


There are many other safety devices that may increase the safety of crane operators and reduce the number of crane accidents. For example, load drum rotation indicators are useful safety devices, as they alarm the operator with an audible or visible signal. The signal allows the operator to focus on the load only. Another common standard feature is the safety latch, which secures the load straps or chains in the throat of the hook, preventing them from slipping unexpectedly. Today, there are many different types of safety latches available all over the world. Properly designed hook safety latches prevent a dropped load or crane upset from unexpected movement of the boom, by not allowing the moving load to escape the hook. The hooks that do not have latches or have damage latches are known as killer hooks.
