Grainfather: Maximise Your Brewing Experience

Making your own beer can be a fun and exciting experience. Plus, learning how to make your own beer can save you money in the future. This is because you dictate how much and what kind of ingredients you will put in your batch. Even if you’re a beginner, worry not, there are various different kits that can help you get started.

The Grainfather system is definitely a worthwhile investment if you’re serious about making your own batch of beer. This system replaces many common products of the Grainfathers homebrewing line. There is also Bluetooth connectivity and you rely on one big device to do everything.



How to Use Grainfather


To start making your own beer, add the needed amount of water – depending on the style of beer you want to make into the boiler and then the inner basket. Place the top overflow pipe and then the grain stopper to it.

Then, add the grain to the basket when the water reaches the right temperature and start stirring the grain. Stir the grain to the correct consistency (depending on the style of beer you want to make). Afterwards, add the perforated plate after removing the grain stopper.

Once that’s done, fit the overflow inlet on the overflow pipe and then place the lid on the boiler. Follow that by screwing the recirculation pipe on the discharge pipe. Switch the pump and start the recirculation.


To sparge the brew, remove the recirculation pipe and the glass lid. Then, fit the lifting handle into the holes of the inner basket. Lift the inner basket and make sure to twist it 45° so that you can rest it on top of the support link. Let mesh liquid drain into the boiler and then press the perforated plate against the grain.

Next, collect the sparge water and pour it over the perforated plate overflowing no more than 10 mm above the plate. Remove the basket when the water stops dripping from it.




When boiling the worth, start by setting the correct temperature (depending on the style of beer you want to make). Start lightly scraping the middle of the base with a pedal to avoid scorching. You’ll see some foam when the wort starts boiling. When that happens, use the paddle to gently stir the mixture.

While the wort is boiling, add ingredients specified in your recipe. Make sure to stir the mixture with the paddle constantly for the first 5 to 10 minutes to prevent over-boiling it.




To cool the mixture you just boiled, make a whirlpool with the paddle for about 30 seconds. Put back the glass lid and place the chiller on top of it. Next, fit the chiller connection to the discharge pipe and untangle the blue and red hose. Connect the blue hose to your tap with the tap adaptor and the red hose in a sink.

Then, place the cold wort out hose in the hole in the lid to sterilise the chiller. After that, turn the pump on to sterilise the chiller and let it sit for up to 5 minutes. Next, turn on cool water and let it run into the chiller. Turn off the pump and put the out worth tube (hose) into a fermenter and turn on the pump once again.


Cleaning the Grainfathers brewing system is done by filling the boiler with water and a specific cleaning solution provided for the system as per the provided instructions. Connect the chiller and place the cold out worth tube into the glass lid. Make sure to set the temperature to 55 °C and circulate the cleaner through the chiller for 5 minutes.

When 5 minutes have passed, remove the chiller and connect the recirculation pipe and recirculate the cleaner for 10 minutes. Once that’s done, make sure to scrub the sides and bottom of the boiler using a soft bristle brush. When you’re done, pour out the water and add clean water to the boiler. Circulate this water through the chiller and recirculation pipe the same way you did with the cleaner and you’re done.
